Compress DVD9 Movies to DVD5 Discs on the Macintosh By Skying, Last Edited By Skying

This article aims to tell you the difference between DVD9 and DVD5 and teach you How to Compress DVD9 movies to DVD5 on Mac.

What is D5 and D9 ?

DVD-5 (Single Side Single Layer)
D5 holds around 4 700 000 000 bytes (4.37 computer GB). DVD+R/DVD+RW and DVD-R/DVD-RW support this format. This is the most common DVD Media, which often called 4.7 GB Media.
DVD-9 (Single Side Dual Layer)
D9 holds around 8 540 000 000 bytes (7.95 computer GB). DVD+R support this format. It is called DVD+R9, DVD+R DL or 8.5 GB Media. A DVD-9 (dual layer) disc can usually hold 240 minutes of continuous video.

Why Compress DVD9 to DVD5?
 
Obviously, the capacity of DVD9 is twice than DVD5, and many wonderful DVD movies are in DVD9 format, then why do we need to compress DVD9 movies to DVD5? The following reasons may tell you.

1. D5 is reusable and environmentally friendly.
2. Make backups for your favorite movies in case of unexpected damages.
3. DVD5 is cheaper than DVD9. If you want to make more copies (if legal) of your favorite DVD movies, you might as well choose DVD5 disc to backup, it will save a lot of money.

Step1. Launch the Mac DVD Copy Pro and Insert your DVD-9 Movies Disc

Step2. Select the Option 'D9 to D5 Compression'.

It provides 3 different copy options(Full Copy, Main Movie Copy and Customized Copy)

Step3. Click 'Start' to Copy D9 to D5 on Mac
There are 4 types of mode you can choose to output your movies: DVD Disc, DVD Folder, ISO, and DVD Media. Here you need to choose "DVD Disc".

Step 4.
It will take you about 70 --- 80 minutes to finish the whole backup, compression and burning process, (it depends on the size.)
