Roxio Creator 2010 Digital media suite of tools By John Virata

Roxio Creator 2010 is a jack of all trades suite of media creation, archiving, and management tools all hooked in via a single launch point. The Swiss army style software has been around for many years, and seems to be one of the last integrated suites of its kind standing. It offers a wealth of tools to burn your media, edit videos, copy discs, burn audio CDs, create DVDs, edit photographs, and copy and convert videos to other formats for playback on various video playback devices. The main Home window is where you will find icons that will give you access to all of Creator 2010's functions. Within the scope of this review, we'll cover some of the new features available in this version.

The Creator 2010 Learning Center
When you have a program with so many programs within it, learning all the aspects of the programs can become a daunting task. While most functions of Creator 2010 are self explanatory, there is a time when you might want to get more tips on how to complete certain projects or learn how to use certain tools within the program. This is where the Creator 2010 Learning Center comes in. The Learning Center is a place in the program where you can get that help. It offers up a variety of resources, such as how to videos and Adobe PDF-based tutorials. The Learning Center covers a wide array of projects, ranging from Archiving Data and Copying discs with Roxio Burn, to Restoring Old photos in PhotoSuite , to Capture Internet Audio with Easy Audio Capture. Learning Center hosts a wealth of tutorials and tips, with more added via the website.

MyDVD has an updated interface to enable you to more easily create your DVD projects. The Menu tasks bar is located on the left of the preview window, and this is where you can add your videos, slideshows, and an intro movie. You also have access to the editing functions here as well, functions that enable you to edit your movie and chapters, change menu style, change button style, and background, menu audio, and submenus. It remains one of the easiest basic DVD creation applications on the market with a wealth of features and functionality. New to this version is the addition of high definition motion menus that you can choose to complement your projects.

The editing companion to MyDVD is VideoWave. VideoWave has been around since the mid 1990s when it was developed by MGI Software. VideoWave follows a similar work style as MyDVD. To the left of the Preview window are the tools to add content and change settings, show effects, create new slideshows, and capture/import your video clips from a video camera. Below the Preview window is the VideoWave TimeLine, which gives you a visual representation of the video project. And finally to the right of the Preview window is the Tools window. For example, click the Show Effect Selector and the tools appear in the tools window to the right of the preview window. VideoWave is a fairly simple video editing application as everything is easily laid out for you with easy access.
