Etherios Joins Salesforce Wear Initiative, Accelerating the Adoption of Wearables in the Enterprise
CHICAGO, Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Etherios, a leader in IoT solutions and a division of Digi International (NASDAQ:DGII), today announced it has joined the Salesforce Wear initiative, creating the first ecosystem dedicated to accelerating the adoption of wearables in the enterprise. As part of the initiative, Etherios is focused on creating mobile-ready applications that help people lead a healthier lifestyle and improve their quality of life by leveraging an open solution that enables individuals to connect any wearable device to the Salesforce1 Platform through their AppExchange application, The Social Machine.
From remote patient monitoring to fitness tracking applications, Etherios is transforming wearable device data into actionable information. In one example, a patient's health is monitored remotely from the comfort of their own home by hospital staff through connected scales, blood pressure cuffs and pulse oximeters that relay real-time information into the Salesforce1 Platform through The Social Machine. Family members can also take comfort as they receive updates on the status of their loved ones from their mobile device. Further, Etherios is enabling fitness tracking devices to encourage a more active lifestyle by creating "gamification" apps built on the Salesforce1 Platform. Companies are expanding their corporate wellness programs to include these apps and wearable devices to lower overall health insurance premiums for their employees.
Comments on the News
- "Wearables is just one more example of how individuals and businesses are transforming device data into actionable useable information," said Mike Dannenfeldt, SVP Etherios. "It's exciting to see not only benefits for the individual, but also the transformational benefits these solutions provide to the overall industry."
- "Like mobile 10 years ago, wearables presents a huge opportunity for businesses to transform the way they work," said Daniel Debow, SVP emerging technologies, salesforce.com. "By leveraging the power of the Salesforce1 Customer Platform, Etherios is helping companies connect with their customers in a whole new way."
The Salesforce Wear Developer Pack for the Salesforce1 Platform
Until now, there has not been a trusted, enterprise cloud platform for businesses that want to embrace wearables. Developers who wanted to create business focused applications did not have access to an industry leading platform, reference applications and code, ecosystem support or customer data. Developers in the wearable space built great prototypes, but were not connected to a platform.
Now more than 1.5 million Salesforce1 developers can kickstart a wearable strategy. With access to a growing library of devices, sample code, documentation, demonstrations and reference apps to learn from, enterprise developers can immediately start building their own business applications connected to wearable devices.
