Tragicom Studios Movie Explores Link Between the Technology Industry and the Rise in Autism with Futuristic Eugenics Thriller, "Mindblinders"

(June 30, 2014)

Austin, TX, June 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Tragicom Studios today announced it is currently producing a feature film, MindBlinders, which promises to cause a stir within the high technology and medical communities. Set in a world of human genetics engineering, forced global inoculations and the rise of a techno-fascist leader, MindBlinders takes humankind to the brink of extinction and guarantees to cause debate.

While the cognitive disorder known as “mind-blindness” is a central story element, it is also perhaps the defining behaviour of most individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Autism is now at epidemic proportions and currently affects one in 68 children according to Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The cause and explanation for the incredible spike in diagnosed cases over the past decade remains a hotly debated mystery. What is known is the strong genetic component to autism. Mind-blindness is a cognitive disorder that renders a person unable to read social cues or generally empathize with other individuals making common interaction very awkward. However that same socially isolated person may have amazing aptitude in areas of special interest like high tech engineering where their ability to focus on the minutia of detail allows them to thrive and pass on their genetics.

The movie explores a few previously unasked questions:

Is the pervasiveness of the high technology culture responsible then for shifting a very large gene pool in the direction of the mind-blind? Could that aggregated gene pool be a factor helping to explain the current autism epidemic? Has the rise in diagnosed cases of autism followed the growth trajectory of the high tech industry? Has the high tech industry begun to shape its own workforce through indirect eugenics (human engineering)? Has life begun to imitate technology? MindBlinders is set in world where the answer to these questions is an unequivocal yes.

“Given the unexplained autism epidemic and all the conjecture, maybe we should ask if a tipping point has been reached where mind-blindness is somehow being cultivated,” commented Boswell, CEO and founder of Tragicom Studios. “The idea of mankind adapting to technology or its culture has always troubled me, especially if the freedom of the human mind is being slowly bridled with some narrow mental framework. I find it ironic and disturbing the high technology industry has had more than a few luminaries in the eugenics camp starting with the co-inventor of the transistor, William Shockley.”

Boswell concludes: “High Tech has been my Galapagos!”
