Live Arts Maryland Presents Broadway in Annapolis: Once Upon a Mattress Feb. 14-15(February 05, 2014)
Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) February 05, 2014
Live Arts Maryland presents its mid-winter Broadway in Annapolis production, Once Upon a Mattress, on Friday, February 14 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, February 15 (8 p.m.) at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Leading the strong cast as Princess Winifred the Woebegone is Kimberly Christie, a popular performer who captivated audiences as Miss Adelaide in LAMs Guys & Dolls. Joining her as Prince Dauntless is John Halmi, a frequent LAM performer and a familiar face on many other area stages. Also lending their considerable talents to Once Upon a Mattress are David Merrill (Minstrel), Molly Moore Green (Queen Aggravain), Nathan Wyatt (Sir Harry), Caitlin Vincent (Lady Larken), Erik Alexis (the Jester), Jim Reiter (the Wizard) and Duncan Hood (King Sextimus). The show is directed by Eloise Ullman, herself a popular performer on local stages and a past director of many very successful LAM productions. Elysia Greene is the productions choreographer. For these two performances, the Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by special guest Jason Tramm.
Once Upon a Mattress features music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer. The Tony Award-nominated musical opened off-Broadway in May 1959, and then moved to Broadway, where launched the career of comedienne Carol Burnett. Helping tell the funny tale of Princess Fred, Prince Dauntless and the tangled lives of the courtiers who very much want the Prince to marry, are some very funny musical numbers including An Opening for a Princess, Im Shy and Spanish Panic.
Single tickets for both performances start at $25 and are available at the Maryland Hall Box Office by calling 410-280-5640 or online. The Student Rush free ticket program is active for this concert. Students over 18 with valid IDs may visit the box office a half-hour before curtain to receive a free ticket. Students under 18 do not need a valid ID.
