Brown Paper Tickets Wins "Best Customer Service for the Performing Arts" Award(January 15, 2014)

Ticketing and event registration service Brown Paper Tickets has won the award for "Best Customer Service for the Performing Arts" at LiveBlessay, a benefit celebrating artistic and technical excellence in the San Francisco dance community. Bay Area Dance Watch and SAFEhouse, (Saving Art From Extinction) produced the event, which recognized 35 local artists and services supporting the local dance community and raised $12,000 for new dance works by Bay Area emerging and established artists.
"Brown Paper Tickets has set the gold standard and set it first, for all ticket sales companies to follow their lead," said Jim Tobin, founder of Bay Area Dance Watch, a site that shares essay portraits of local dancers, leaders, providers and supporters in addition to helping with fundraising. "Dance companies and local theaters need to pay attention to which ticketing service is preferred by their patrons, because ticket buyers are their biggest supporters."
Brown Paper Tickets was given the award based on six key aspects of customer service: ease of use for the ticket buyer, a 24/7 hotline, transparency in charges and in purchase lists, website design and donations of 5 percent of the profits from each ticket sold to nonprofits in the category of each ticket-buyers choice; all while charging the lowest fee in the ticketing industry. The company was the first to provide the tools for ticketing, event registration and 24 hour live customer service completely free of charge to the event organizer, making Brown Paper Tickets a favorite for independent artists, musicians, community organizers and venues.
"I want the highest percentage of what I pay for my ticket to go directly to the dance company I am trying to support," said Tobin. Accepting the award for Brown Paper Tickets is one of the pioneer promoters and originators of computerized ticketing, Jerry Seltzer, Brown Paper Tickets' outreach representative in the Bay Area. Seltzer is also a former Ticketmaster executive vice president and the founder of BASS Ticketing in San Francisco. Seltzer comes from a long line of promoters; his late father, Leo Seltzer, was also a master promoter who invented the sport of roller derby.
